City of Merrill: Hiring For Chief of Police/Marshal
The City of Merrill, Oregon, is a quaint, rural community with a population of 825 residents located approximately 15 miles south of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Nestled within the Klamath Basin, the City of Merrill is a gateway to historical monuments and natural wonders such as the Lava Beds National Monument and Crater Lake National Park that draw tourists worldwide. Other attractions include the annual Klamath Basin Potato Festival, Lost River Bluegrass Festival, and numerous recreational activities. The City is seeking an experienced leader who will continue the community-focused service provided by the Merrill Police Department. The selected individual must be a strong communicator, approachable, inclusive, collaborative, and forward-thinking. The Chief of Police will be expected to model the highest ethical and professional standards who reports directly to an appointed City Councilman. Any combination of experience, education and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: an Associate Degree in law enforcement from an accredited institution; completion of at least two full years in a related field at an accredited four your university or college; Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement or closely related field desirable; or equivalent law enforcement experience of a minimum ten (10) years with two (2) years supervisory experience. Starting salary is $55,000-$60,000 DOQE in addition to an attractive benefits package.
