CLNHA’s Executive Director is expected to retire and/or move to less than full-time in the next year or two. In that context, the Board is moving ahead with a search for an Operations Manager/Assistant Director who has the potential to move up to become the next Executive Director when they have acquired the necessary skills and experience.) The Crater Lake Natural History Association (CLNHA) Operations Manager/Assistant Director (OMAD) is responsible for managing the day to day operation of the retail stores at Crater Lake National Park (CRLA) The OMAD will report directly to the Executive Director (ED) and work closely with the National Park Service (NPS) as a partner to inspire public understanding and foster preservation of natural and cultural resources in CRLA. Retail responsibilities include all aspects of store operations at CRLA including, but not limited to: security and accuracy of the safe; distributing money bags to the clerks; opening and closing procedures; audits of cash handling and maintaining balance sheets. The OMAD is also responsible for inventory control and working closely with employees receiving freight and stocking the stores. This includes setting store displays and merchandising for optimal sales. CRLA has 5 trailhead locations that are managed by the OPAD which requires collecting, reconciling and reporting the visitor center donations. The OMAD will assist the ED in hiring and supervising employees for CLNHA operations. They will orient, train, and schedule employees while maintaining a safe, clean and organized environment/workplace. Other miscellaneous responsibilities include delivery of inventory and supplies, shoveling snow if needed, and other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director. As Assistant Director, the OMAD will be expected to develop the capacity to handle all aspects of CLNHA operations eventually including finance, payroll and taxes. They will assist the ED with oversight of Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve (OCNM&P) and Employee Campground operations. OCNM & P will do their own hiring and advertising. The OMAD will participate in park events as needed by NPS, operate the Visitor Centers (VC) according to NPS guidelines and following all rules and regulations as mandated by the NPS. The OMAD will also assist the ED with buying new product and keeping updated with new trends, within the Scope of Sales. Other duties include participating in management meetings with ED, NPS and NHA board members. The OMAD will also be responsible for all other responsibilities include the webpage, mail orders, postage meter, security cameras, point of sale (POS) computer, credit card terminals, NHA memberships, and social media. Applicants must be able to meet the physical demands of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. While desk time will be occasionally required, you must also be able to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours per day. Climb stairs. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Shovel snow as needed. Make repetitive motions, especially of the hands and wrist (grasp, pinch, type, write) and legs and back (stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, crouch). As well as climb and balance to hang and retrieve merchandise.
