Communication/Information Officer

Full-Time Benefits Regular – Full -Time Communication/Information Officer’s primary responsibility is to serve as the point of contact for all Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services (KTHFS) public relation and publication needs. The Communication/Information Officer’s is responsible for the production and dissemination of information concerning KTHFS business, programs, services, and events to Tribal Members, KTHFS & Tribal Staff, and the public. This is conducted via the KTHFS Newsletter, The Klamath Tribes newsletter (Klamath News), as well as other multi-media formats, including the use of social media. Areas of responsibility are the publication and distribution of the KTHFS Newsletter, management and update of KTHFS website, coordinating the KTHFS’ print and electronic media, including social media, managing Tribal relations, preparing and disseminating news releases, maintaining mailing lists, producing pamphlets, posters, indoor and outdoor materials including jingles, billboards, etc.


1. Provide the main point of contact for KTHFS for all public relations-related needs.

2. Create and distribute news articles, stories, information, materials, photos, marketing campaigns, etc. for Tribal Government, KTHFS Departments, KTHFS staff, Tribal Members and the general public. This includes editing copy, verifying accuracy and completeness of information, working with the media for advertisement, and distributing through email listserves.

3. Oversee and actively participate in the production process of publications including forms, tribal reports, brochures, pamphlets, etc. utilizing computerized desktop publishing software such as; Quark Express, Photoshop, PageMill, and Microsoft Word. This includes the coordination of outside vendors for printing purposes.


Knowledge of the Klamath Tribal organization and work of the Public Information Program in order to provide the technical advice and service where an understanding of the total work is needed. Knowledge and understanding of the Klamath Tribes organization, functions, policies, goals, priorities and operating programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective personal relationships in a work situation with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of different managerial, economic, cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION REQUIRED to possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent. (Must submit copy of diploma or transcripts with application.)

REQUIRED to possess a Bachelors or Associate Degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related professions; OR equivalent job-related education and experience may be substituted for the degree. (Copy of degree or transcripts must be submitted with application.)

REQUIRED to have a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience in a similar capacity
