Grounds Maintenance Specialist
Oregon Tech is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to join the Klamath Falls campus. The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor provides daily leadership and works alongside a crew of four Grounds Workers and one Equipment Operator. The department also employs 8 or more student or temporary workers to assist the Grounds staff. This is a working supervisor position expected to perform any or all the duties assigned to the crew. At the Klamath Falls campus, the Grounds department maintains 190 acres of artificial and live turf, flower gardens, trees, plantings, storm drains, irrigation systems, paths, trails, roadways, and sidewalks. This department designs, installs, and retrofits irrigation systems. It also designs and implements sustainable landscape practices. The Grounds department is also responsible for providing safe exterior surfaces for pedestrian and vehicular travel on campus through snow and ice control, tree and plant pruning and organic material control. This position is frequently exposed to extreme sounds/noise/vibrations and may be exposed to extreme weather and temperatures. Oregon Tech is seeking applications
Preferred Qualifications: Current valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and medical card. Additional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Certified Irrigation Technician level ½, Certified Grounds manager, certified grounds technician, arborist certification, and course work in horticulture, landscape maintenance, or related field. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis, including technical training and/or professional certifications in landscape, horticulture, pest management, arboriculture. Two (2) years of supervisory experience in Grounds Maintenance. Four (4) years of grounds maintenance work experience. Public Pesticide Applicators license and the proper selection mixing and application of herbicides and insecticides. Ability to lift/carry over 50 pounds. Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license. Organizational skills, for planning projects, estimating costs and scheduling crew work. Office skills in Word and Excel. Equipment maintenance experience of mowers, 2 cycle engines, and hand tools. Knowledge of irrigation system maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and scheduling. Exterminating skills with respect to OSHA safety regulations. Ability to inventory supplies and equipment and prepare purchase requests.
